Cosmetics don't last forever once opened. Old products can work less well or grow bacteria, especially around the eyes.
Good to know
- Many products show a small open-jar symbol with a number like "12M": use within 12 months of opening
- Sunscreen has an expiration date on the package; don't use it after that date
- Mascara and liquid eyeliner are usually replaced every few months
- Throw out anything that smells, separates or changes color
Save money
Write the open date on products with a marker. Buying smaller sizes of things you use slowly means less waste.
